I am always amazed by the changing seasons. While there is not such a definite change in these days of scorching winter days and rain-filled summer moments, when we do enjoy those special days ‘typical’ of certain months, there is so much around to appreciate each and every season. Winter is perfect for hot chocolate, good books and the doona; summer sees fun-filled family outings, twilight strolls and melting ice creams; while spring is full of vibrant colours, singing birds and fresh, fragrant blossoms.
We are now into the autumn months, and as nature begins to change to suit, the outside world provides inspirational shapes and colourways for jewellery inspiration. Create fabulous tributes to nature’s autumn beauty, indulge in the hues of the season and bling them up with brass or gold or experiment with alternative shapes and charms that reflect the appeal of the natural world.
This issue of Beads etc…is full of great ideas to make the most of nature’s inspiration! Discover the magic of one of nature’s treasures – the pearl. In the second instalment of this two part Beader’s Digest special, we explore pearl varieties, how to choose the best pearl form and how to care for your pearls once they are part of your jewellery pieces.
Create a stunning beaded cuff with a stand-out cabachon feature and fabulous earthy tones or design a gorgeous twisted necklace featuring a striking mix of stones and pearls. Have fun with vibrant colours, creating funky freestyle lampwork flowers; experiment mimicking marble lines using polymer clay; or look to the skies for design inspiration, with some gorgeous threaded star hangers, perfect for embellishing your bag or phone. There is even inspiration from the animal world in the form of a cute chicken key charm.
If that’s not enough to get your creativity in overdrive, there are also plenty of other projects featuring buttons, stitching, threadwork and more! So what are you waiting for? Create the designs in this issue just as they are, or add your own spin, pulling inspiration from the world around you.
P.S. Remember, I would love to hear about your thoughts, ideas and designs. Even if you are just starting out, I’d love to hear from you! You can contact me via phone on 02 9555 9322 or email casey@creativelivingmedia.com.au
